Technical translation is one of the most demanding disciplines in the field because the cost of an error can be significant. A mistranslated specification in an engineering manual can cause equipment damage or personal injury. A terminology error in a patent specification can affect its legal validity. A translation error in a regulatory submission can delay or invalidate an approval.

We assign technical and scientific translation exclusively to translators who have professional or academic backgrounds in the relevant domain. An aerospace engineering manual is not assigned to a general technical translator -- it goes to someone with aerospace engineering training who also works as a translator. This distinction matters.

Our technical translation covers mechanical, electrical, electronic, and chemical engineering; instrumentation and metrology; environmental science; life sciences and biology; chemistry and materials science; construction and architecture; and automotive and industrial equipment.

For each technical project, we build a terminology list before translation begins. If the client can provide reference documentation (existing glossaries, previous translations, manufacturer specifications), we incorporate them. Consistent terminology across a document set -- and across multiple projects for the same client -- is a fundamental requirement for technical content.

We translate in all directions for our covered language pairs. German to English is our highest-volume technical pair, but Japanese to English and French to English technical content are also handled regularly.

Patents require particular care. Patent claims language is legally precise, and an error in rendering the scope of a claim can affect enforceability. We work with patent attorneys on both sides of the translation process for major filings.
